The Ruinous Relationship

summary: This is your last chance to decide not to read this tragic story. You can still get that copy of The Luckiest Kids In The World: Happy Fun Times At The Funfair if you run fast enough.

Subject:Lemony Snicket/ASoUE graphic.

Mr. Snicket's Desktop - 1024 x 768Collapse )

I am anxiously awaiting the final book, and while I would prefer not to remind you all of this terrible upcoming event, as devoted friends and colleagues of Mr. Snicket we must bear his burden alongside him. I have found that grieving, meanwhile, has made me rather productive in Photoshop, and this is the woeful fruit of that labour.

Though I cannot imagine you why you would want to be reminded of the Baudelaire's misfortune and the many sordid mysteries surrounding V.F.D., I know that some of you will insist upon investigating every possible clue, and keeping said clues within easy access of your personal computers. This dreadful wallpaper serves the above function as well as reducing you to tears every time you check your electronic mail. If you should happen to use this graphic anywhere else, God forbid, please blame me somewhere the world can see it.

The wallpaper above contains what many would consider spoilers, for those who have not finished up to the ninth cheerless installment of the Baudelaire's biography.

My apologies,

Subject:First time poster here...
Posted by:violetsocks.
Time:9:17 am.
Mood: excited.
I just found this tidbit out:

In The Hostile Hospital, check the names of the patient list that Klaus and Sunny read in order to find out which room Violet was in. In my copy, it's on pages 157-158.

We all know that Laura V. Bleediotie was really an anagram of Violet Baudelaire. But did you know that almost all of the names on this list are anagrams?

Lisa N. Lootnday - Alison Donalty (The cover designer, her name is located on
the back cover.)
Albert E. Deviloeia - ?
Linda Rhaldeen - Daniel Handler (Lemony Snicket's Real Name)
Ada O. Ubervillet - Vlt Baudelaire? (Violet without vowels)
Ed Valiantbrue - Vnt Baudelaire? (Unknown)
Laura V. Bleedoite - Violet Baudelaire (Obviously)
Monty Kensicle - Lemony Snicket
Ned H. Rirger - Red Herring
Eriq Bluthetts - Bret Helquist
Ruth Dercroump - Torch Up Murder
Al Brisnow - Lisa Brown (Cover Artist)
Carrie E Abelbudite - Beatrice Baudelaire

I never noticed this before so I just thought I'd let everyone in on it, too. :)

hey everyone i just joined =) dear dairy...woo i love the comm name =)

anyway, i didn't post for no reason, lol, i wanted to comment on something i read in the earlier posts about the whole "J.S." thing and how the message was directed to "J.S."

I never considered Justice Strauss to be a possible candidate, because there's someone else with the initials J.S. Who?

Jerome Squalor

Remember how in LSUA, Lemony was trying to contact Jerome but he didn't reach him in time to stop marrying Esme? They obviously knew about each other and thus Jerome should've known about VFD. Of course, he seems very clueless about everything as well but then so does Justice Strauss, no? She was the one that almost fully wed Olaf and Violet together.

Hm, just a little contribution from my head, Enjoy =)

Subject:Movie thoughts.
Posted by:princesskraehe.

Mood: tired.
(x-posted to _lemonysnicket)  Just came back from the movie, and here are some thoughts:

Non-spoilery stuff.Collapse )

Spoilery to the movie.Collapse )

Spoilery to the books in addition to movie.Collapse )

Overall -- a well-made movie, a good representation of the characters (with the possible exception of Poe), but definitely grating to purists in some parts.  You've really gotta consider this to be separate and independent from the books, as silly as that sounds, because trying to stick this in line with book canon is something akin to the old square-peg-in-the-round-hole problem.  If they do continue, I don't know how they're going to account for some metaplot issues, if they'll backtrack and stick stuff in that they skipped (because they'll sort of have to if they're going to address everything), or if they'll just pretend everything's fine.

Oh, but do watch all the end credits.  They're rather fun.

I will post pictures of my book-version Violet costume as soon as they're sent to me.

I'm trying to find a picture of Carmelita Spats, especially the one in the Austere Academy. You know, the one where she is standing in front of the Motto? Like, the first page of the book on the inside. Anyone have that book that can scan that picture in for me? Or know where one is on the net?

Thanks in advance :D

New to this group ... I plan to be contributing a lot, though.  I've just now finished reading The Grim Grotto, and I have loads and loads to say.

Spoilers like you wouldn't believe.Collapse )

Now, now really spoiler-y ... but it seems as though Olaf is getting more and more Jim Carrey-like in this book.  JKR admits that the movies influence her books after the fact, and I wonder if that's going on here.  I'm just not a Carrey fan, so I'm a little biased.

Hello :) I'm not great at introductory posts, but I adore everything about the SoUE books (well, of course) and have devoted many happy hours curled up giggling and squealing softly over how packed with literary and historical illusion they are - there really isn't enough fun child/YA fiction which rewards close attention around, man. I'm also gutted that we in the UK have to wait almost two weeks extra to get our hands on The Grim Grotto, for some reason.

Anyway, I wanted to post a snippet which had been nagging away at me for ages, in the hope that the little pool of fellow members could join in the theorising and hopefully not be plunged too deeply into misery and woe.

From 'The Wide Window'; slightly spoilery for general VFD stuff and probably the AutobiographyCollapse )

PS - This community really does have the best username and icon ever. Just had to say.

So... here it is, just in time for the release of The Grim Grotto. Has anyone managed to get their hands on a copy yet?

Any suggestions for this journal are welcome. If you haven't read The Unauthorized Biography yet, you're probably wondering where the name came from. I wanted to use a name that was used early on in the series, but the obvious ones were already taken. If you don't know about this VFD already, you'll find out soon enough! ^-^

I know those of you who showed interest in a community are at different places in the series. Should we use cut tags for discussion about the books, and mention the latest book involved before cutting?

Just one more day! :D
